LIVING WISDOM

Swami A. Parthasarathy

"Living is an art, a skill, a technique. You need to learn and practise it as you would a game or musical instrument."

Three Yogas to Meditation Lecture

Born in Chennai, India on 8 June 1927 into a distinguished business family, Swami A. Parthasarathy, affectionately known as 'Swamiji',  pursued higher studies in literature, science and law and worked for a multinational company, but from an early age his deep curiosity about the subtler aspects of life led him to renounce a promising career in business and instead dedicate himself to the study of Vedanta – the ancient philosophy from India.

Our Teacher

The word “guru” literally means “dispeller of darkness” and Swamiji has made it his life goal to help seekers learn and absorb the timeless wisdom of Vedanta.

In 1988, he founded the Vedanta Academy which runs three-year residential courses, corporate and youth retreats and an e-Learning program that are carefully designed to elevate all aspects of the personality. Trained directly by Swamiji, the senior alumni are now taking his mission forward by conducting study classes, lectures and retreats around the world.

Impact

Rehabilitation of Intellect

For more than six decades, Swamiji dedicated the hours between 4 and 6 am to researching the scriptures with the goal of making this subtle philosophy accessible to today’s seekers.

Swamiji has written twelve books, including three best sellers that provide the material to systematically develop the human intellect, and bring about mental solace and material prosperity.

Purification of Mind

In a world that faces strife, wars and terrorism, Swamiji has emphasised the need for humanity to purify our emotions to accommodate the welfare of the community at large.

Vedanta encourages us to inculcate social consciousness - to empathise, serve, share and harmonise. To gradually expand our circle of identification to all living beings.

Global Service

Into his nineties, Swamiji maintained a rigorous daily schedule that included study and writing in the early hours of the morning, yoga, conducting lectures and group discussions for students and supervising the administration of the Vedanta Academy without any break for weekend, holiday or vacation for 65 years.

Every month, Swamiji dedicated 15 days to travel – tirelessly introducing the higher values of Vedanta to diverse international organisations such as the Young Presidents’ Organisation, World Economic Forum and distinguished universities such as Harvard, Stanford, Wharton, Oxford and the IITs.

Eternal Principles for Daily Challenges

A Life Dedicated to Service

With reference to your past you are a product, a slave. But with reference to your future you are a producer, a master.
